How Eungedup Wetlands will be managed

WICC has formed the Eungedup Wetlands Management Group. This group includes experts in Australasian Bittern conservation, revegetation, water quality monitoring and feral management. We are monitoring water levels, salinity and pH of the wetlands to ensure their suitability for Australasian Bittern and other waterbirds.  A Menang Elder, Aunty Carol Petterson, sits on the Management Group.

A series of motion activated cameras have been placed to ensure wildlife is carefully monitored and protected from feral animals (and humans). We have implemented a feral management program which includes the trapping of cats and foxes and use of 1080. WICC has even extended its feral management efforts to the surrounding reserves and farmland to ensure a landscape scale approach so predators to not enter Eungedup from the surrounding properties.  Once Eungedup is purchased, the management group will look to covenant the Eungedup Wetlands so their protection is guaranteed forever, and they can never be cleared of native vegetation.

The property will be owned and managed by WICC with the full support of BirdLife Australia, Birdlife WA, Wetlands Conservation Society WA, Conservation Council of WA and Gondwana Link.
