Bubas bison

B. Bison establishment 'best practice'

Picture
In order to ensure we get the most of our beetles we want to make sure they are going to 'good homes'. Please read through the document at the bottom of this page 'Consider your dung beetles when using parasiticides'

Conditions on receiving a dung beetle colony from WICC:

1. Please follow best practice when it comes to use of chemicals (read the document!).  Quickest way to kill your beetles is to poison them.
2.Ensure there is fresh dung during the autumn (this one, and the next, and the next...) at, or adjacent to the release site.  (note that exotic dung beetles will not go through our native bush).
3. Predation: Foxes and Ibis love them.  We can help you with the foxes.  We have been advised that once established the Ibis will predate, but not decimate, an established colony.
4. Don't release at location that is, or will be, inundated.  Choose high ground.  They will distribute themselves where the environment suits them.
5. Be able to pick up, or have picked up, your dung beetles from an agreed location and time.  We will try to give you a few days notice before they arrive.  We will have a pick up site in Mt. Barker and a pick up Site in Denmark.
