WICC Beetle Friendly Farms
Do you want to join local properties that are improving soil by introducing dung beetles?
Simply take this five-minute survey to find out if WICC can provide dung beetles to work on your farm! (or contact us: [email protected] or 0427529077)
Dung beetles evolved with cattle. They rapidly bury livestock dung, improve soil health & pasture productivity, store carbon and vastly reduce parasites and fly problems. Burying dung also reduces nutrient runoff into our waterways protecting Inlet water quality. We want more of them in our catchment!
While we already have several species of dung beetle, they don't cover all times of year and their distribution is patchy. We are aiming to establish extra species so beetles are active throughout the whole year. Depending on the type of beetle, this can be done by paddock releases or breeding beetles in on-farm nurseries.
