DIY Soil Testing Program

WICC (in partnership with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation) is offering a scaled down version of the Whole Farm Nutrient Mapping Program to growers in the Wilson Inlet Catchment who applied for this program... but did not get in this year due to the program being over subscribed.

This is roughly how it will work...
  • In Nov/Dec 2020 - attend soil sampling Field Day with DPIRD Ag Scientists
  • Dec 2020 - You borrow our soil sampling equipment and sample bags - take your own soil samples and drop at post office
  • Dec/Jan 2020 - Samples analysed at CSBP Labs - WICC will pay for original analysis on our account - about $42.40 plus GST per paddock (CSBP reduced rate) - Note there is a minimum cost of $300
  • Jan 2021 - WICC invoices you for cost of analysis - $42.40 plus GST per paddock
  • Jan/Feb 2010 - DPIRD and WICC index your CSBP raw data, producing you Fertcare Indexed tables (The table gives the soil test results of each paddock and a colour coded key on status and whether to apply fertiliser or not).
  • Feb/Mar 2021 - Attend a workshop with DPIRD where you receive your results and learn what they mean
  • Mar/Apr 2021 - Select from a panel of Fertcare accredited agronomist whom will advise you with your fertiliser plan
  • Spring 2021 - You will have the option to carry out plant tissue testing to analyse trace elements (further charges may apply for this option).

Example of Fertcare Indexed Tables
Each soil sample will be analysed for...
Standard Phosphorus 􏰁􏰂􏰃􏰄􏰅􏰆􏰄(Colwell) - Potassium (Colwell) 􏰁􏰂􏰃􏰄􏰅􏰆􏰄􏰄􏰇 -  Sulfur (KCl 40) - Organic Carbon (Walkley Black) - Nitrate Nitrogen - Ammonium Nitrogen - Electrical Conductivity - pH (Water) - pH (CaCl2) - Phosphorous Buffering Index
Please note that the above process may vary slightly (we have never offered this before).  The DWER has agreed to include the agronomic advice under this alternative program.  There is a minimum fee of $300 per participant.  This means if a participant only sampled 6 paddocks the cost would be $300, if they sampled 8 paddocks the cost would be $339.20 plus GST.   This DIY program relies on you picking up and returning soil sampling equipment, taking your own samples and dropping at post office.  You will be required to attend a soil sampling Field Day where you will be taught how to carry out best practice soil sampling and also attend a workshop (Feb/March 2021) where you will be provided your results.

If you are interested in participating in this program please complete the Expression of Interest form below by 23 October 2020:
